Welcome !

I would like to welcome you to our Cub Scout Pack 167's Web Site. As you can see there is a tremendous amount of information provided so please use this site as your first stop in trying to answer questions about our Pack. Pack 167 was founded in 1956 and we are currently the largest Pack in the Sycamore District. Right now we have about 90 Cub Scouts from Lake in the Hills and Huntley. Due to our growth over the years, we have split into 2 sister Packs - #267 (Square Barn Rd and Leggee Campuses) and #467 (Square Barn Rd Campus). Most boys in our pack attend school at the Reed Rd Campus, but any boy can join a pack regardless of their school's location. All boys interested in scouting can start as early as kindergarten (new Lions program) all the way through 5th grade, so we welcome all newcomers! Please click on our "New Parent Information" tab for more information about Cub Scouts and how to get registered.

Popcorn Sales

Posted by dbarker on Oct 21 2017 - 10:52pm

Hello Pack 167!

Welcome new and returning scouts.  Every year our pack earns the vast majority of its funding from our popcorn sales.  This sale is very important as it teaches our scouts fundamental skills that will be used later on in life.

First, a quick history on popcorn and scouting:

Pecatonica River Popcorn was started in 1983 when a District of the Blackhawk Area Council was interested in earning funds for their Scouting adventures by selling popping corn.  The sale was so successful that the Blackhawk Area Council, and many others, joined the popcorn program.  Pecatonica River Popcorn is a local family owned company in Livingston, Wisconsin.  Attention to detail and quality are the keys to the success of Pecatonica River Popcorn.  Their corn is ear harvested and then hand sorted to select the most perfect ears.  Rather than choosing corn hybrids that have the highest yields, varieties are selected on taste and tender-ness.  This attention to quality assures excellent taste and a gourmet popcorn product.  I feel that this is important to know- and our scouts to know- specifically because when we are selling the “world’s best popcorn” it’s good to know that we can back up that claim.

Cub Scout Camping and Earning Rank

Posted by dbarker on Aug 13 2017 - 4:29pm

Why is camping in Cub Scouts important to a Scout?

  • Camping takes him on exciting adventures into the natural world.
  • He'll learn to live with others in the out-of-doors.
  • He'll learn to be a good citizen of the outdoors.
  • Camping is fun, and it's good for his mind, body, and spirit.
  • It helps him learn to rely on himself—on his own skills and knowledge.
  • When he goes camping as a Cub Scout, he gets skills he will learn and use more, later, as a Boy Scout.

Every rank now requiries that a Scout attends a Pack campout and or activly plan and participate in a Pack campfire to earn rank.  We are very lucky that our Pack has the opportunity to camp anywhere between 7 and 10 times a year!  The rank adventures are expected to be earned as written.
